Species with characteristically low levels of mercury include shrimp, tilapia, salmon, Pollock, and catfish (FDA March 2004). The FDA characterizes shrimp, catfish, Pollock, salmon, and canned light tuna as low-mercury seafood, although recent tests have indicated that up to 6 percent of canned light tuna may contain high levels
The FDA, like California, only warns women of child bearing age to avoid fish with the highest levels of mercury; they include: shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/mehgadvisory1208.html.
Many consumers are not aware, for example, that a 115 pound women consuming just two cans of albacore tuna in a week puts her 310% above what the EPA and FDA considers safe; a child weighing 45 pounds eating just one can of albacore tuna per week would get a dose 420% higher than the EPA/FDA's safe limit of .1 microgram/kilogram-day of mercury exposure. The same person consuming swordfish would have mercury level of more than three times that high.

I never have been one to like taking pictures of cemeteries and tombstones, but on my recent visit to my daughters and mother-in-laws gravesites I noticed the beautiful creek that runs through the property. My granddaughter was with me, I said I wish I had brought my camera . She said I have mine, she is a teen-ager she takes hers almost everywhere. She took these shots of the creek for me to post to Watery Wednesday, she did an excellent job.

If Call and Response's Carrie Clough is the Nick Drake of indie rock, then Leslie Feist is the Colin Blunstone. Her voice has that warm, buttery ooze that melts down the microphone with the same gentle timbre heard on Blunstone's "Caroline Goodbye." Feist's musical history maps out almost as nomadically as her own travels. She cut her pearly whites in a Calgary punk band called Placebo (not to be confused with the eyeliner-and-nail-polish-wearing British guys) and got to play her very first show opening for the Ramones after winning a battle of the bands contest while still attending high school. Needless to say, that show changed her life. She spent the next half-decade touring in a van and screaming her voice out -- literally. Medical doctors told her that she would never be able to sing again, but doctors say a lot of things. She relocated to Toronto and hibernated for half a year with a guitar and a four-track, honing her layering skills to a razor-like sharpness. The guitar replaced her voice for a while, and she dove deep into barbed pop architecture, later playing guitar for (and touring with) By Divine Right. Working with a voice specialist over the years paid off and in 1999 Feist recorded her first solo album, Monarch (Lay Down Your Jeweled Head). A year later she moved in with Vice Magazine poster girl Peaches and opened up for the electroclash artiste on her first American tour. After that, she joined Broken Social Scene for their second album and toured the U.S. and Europe with them before cranking out her sophomore album, Let It Die, in Paris with Chilly Gonzales and Renaud Letang in 2004. Her solo material can be categorized as indie pop, but Feist balances sophisticated baroque styling with a trip-hop derivative of her own invention that weaves in and out of classic folky frameworks while her ethereal vocals layer over one another in gossamer harmonies. When she plays solo, Feist is the master of the looping effect pedal. She'll strum her electric guitar and catch a riff on it and then pick out a catchy arpeggio to stack on top before looping up to five layers of her heavenly vocals to sound like a one-woman pop symphony. If you see her listed in the pages of your local alt weekly, do yourself a favor and throw down whatever cover they're charging to see her. You will be moved.

Its Mardi Gras time in the south. My late mother-in-law,(Nell) made this pin with matching earrings.
She made a lot of jewerly, and gave most of it away, I don't think she sold hardly any of it. I inherited all of her jewerly making supplies, I have made a few things, but
I don't think I will ever be as good as she was.

This is a painting that my mother painted on a large leaf in 1988. She was a self taught artist, that didn't start painting until her children were grown and married. She did some beautiful work, I have several of her paintings, and I cherish them dearly. She found this leaf, when she and my daddy were camping, and decided to paint a winter scene on it.

I made a cake,from a cake mix,

and made caramel icing for the first time.

It turned out great.

I just put wrapped chocolate hearts on top for Valentines Day.

One-Minute Caramel Icing Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup evaporated milk

1/2 cup butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
In a large cast-iron skillet, bring sugars, milk and butter to a boil over high heat. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Pour into a heat-safe mixing bowl. Carefully beat with an electric mixer at high speed until icing reaches spreading consistency, about 15 minutes. Stir in vanilla. Spread on cooled cake. Frosts 2 (8-inch) round cake layers or one bundt cake.

COUNTRY CHICKEN POT PIE

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

3/4 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces

3/4 teaspoon salt

8 ounces fresh green beans, cut into i-inch pieces (2 cups)

1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper

1/2 cup thinly sliced celery

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/2 cup chicken broth

1/2 cup half-and-half

1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves

1/2 teaspoon rubbed sage

1 cup frozen pearl onions

1/2 cup frozen corn

Pastry for single-crust 10-inch pie

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Spray 10-inch deep dish pie plate with nonstick cooking spray.

Melt butter in large deep skillet over medium-high heat.

Add chicken; cook and stir 3 minutes or untilno longer pink in center.

Sprinkle with salt.

Add beans, bell pepper and celery; cook and stir 3 minutes.

Sprinkle flour evenly over chicken and vegtables; cook and stir 1 minute.

Stir in broth, half-and-half, thyme, and sage; bring to a boil over high heat.

Reduce heat to low and simmer 3 minutes or until sauce is very thick.

Stir in onions and corn. Return to a simmer; cook and stir 1 minute.

Transfer mixture to prepared pie plate. Place pie crust over chicken mixture; turn edges under and crimp to seal. Cut 4 slits in pie crust to allow steam to escape.

Bake 20 minutes or until crust is light golden brown and mixture is hot and bubbly.

Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Makes 6 servings

DADDY “Friday”
My Daddy,
I loved him dearly, he was born in 1919, actually his birthday was 12/19/1919, he had three nineteen’s in in birthday. He always thought that was cute, and so did I. He was the oldest of three children, he had one brother, and one sister. He was raised in middle Alabama. He married one time, my mother, and they had 5 children, I am the 3rd Friday. We have all married and had children of our own & still reside in Alabama. Daddy loved to hunt and fish, mostly fish, he went every chance he got. He and mother owned a motor home, and they went camping and fishing a lot. My husband and I would go sometimes when we could get off work. Daddy and Mother rented a fish camp on the Alabama river where they stayed a lot, and made friends in the entire camp. The Law of The Garbage Truck
== One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a carjumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxidriver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the othercar by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy; and I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when mytaxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of theGarbage Truck.' He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.
Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.
Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...... 'Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.
Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it.

Congratulations cake I made for Shauna, for shooting her first deer. I used graham cracker crumbs for the ground, and toothpicks for the trees, I also built her shooting house out of graham crackers.

You SHOULD know about*77

I knew about the red light on cars, but not the *77.
It was about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend.
An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. *Lauren's parents have always told them never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road , but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc. * Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called * 77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars near where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.
Minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her along with the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes, including previous Impersonating an Officer charges. I never knew about the*77 Cell Phone feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe & quiet place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them (i.e. put on your hazard lights) or call *77 like Lauren did. Too bad the cell phone companies don't generally give you this little bit of wonderful information. *Speaking to a service representative at BellSouth Mobility confirmed that *77 was a direct link to state trooper info in all states.
So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about *77.

Our granddaughter killed her first deer yesterday. She has been going hunting with her Aunt for years, and she finally got to shoot one. She called us today and said she has shot another one, I told her she was a hunter for years, but now she is offically a KILLER ! I am sure when she goes back to school on Monday she will have a lot to brag about. I will download the pictures she took of the deer after she comes home from the hunting trip.

My sweet husband suprised me with these colored pencils yesterday. He went to the store for something else, and came back with them. I have Multiple Sclerosis and don't do much except set and blog. I do very little housework, he does most of it.

I have always enjoyed art, I never persuded it in high school, wish I had. I always doodled whenever I got the chance. I recently started trying to make a entry to the Illustration Friday site, I have drawn 2 entries, and am unable to figure out how to enter them, but I am still trying.

The contagious yawn, once unleashed, cannot be contained. Did you know, there's research to suggest that the more empathetic you are, the more likely you are to catch someone's yawn? Music: get your teen involved in playing an instrument. Teach your daughter to play piano, or maybe even get your son a loud and obnoxious electric guitar setup (you may want to buy earplugs for yourself though haha)
Community Organizations: get your kids involved in the local community orgs like Boy Scouts of America (find your local org here), YMCA, or any of the other community organizations in your hometown.

When he reached the mountaintop, Moses found a jar that contained ten pretty good ideas. Even though the jar had been cleaned, Moses could still detect a faint smell of pickles. Nonetheless, Moses wrote down the ideas thinking they might be good to refer to at a later date. Ideas such as: Never sneak into the movies.

It is raining today, there are thunder storms all around us. Our dog is really scared of the thunder, he dosen't like the noise, he even flenches when the air conditioner comes on.

We are't doing much, I just got through paying our bills, now we are broke again, lol. Robert is watching football, Alabama lost last night at the Sugar Bowl to Utah. 31 to 17 was the score. I am blogging.

Jo and Shauna are still hunting, they are supposed to come home tomorrow I think. Fauna and Michelle attempted to build a Gingerbread House last night, I went over and watched for a little while, but I got tired and came home. I called about 12:00 a.m. and they were still up, they said the gingerbread house didn't work out, they couldn't get it to work like they wanted it to.

New Years Day 2009

Today is January 1, 2009, Robert and I were here by ourselves. We had a spiral sliced ham, potato salad, black-eyed peas and cornbread. I called and asked Marilyn to come and eat with us. She said she would be here about 11:00 am. She called before 11:00 and said she saw on the news where there was a fire in a Thailand bar and a lot of people were killed. I had seen that same news story. She was upset that she hadn't heard from Alecia and Mike, they had traveled to Thailand over the Christmas holidays. She was afraid that they were in the fire. She said she wasn't coming over to eat, she had to go home and check her email, to see if they had emailed her. She called back and said they had emailed her, and she felt better about their safety.

Fauna is still at Michelle's, she spent New Years Eve at her house, we expect her home today. Shauna and Jo are still hunting, and won't be back until Sunday the 4th.

Marilyn came over about 5:30pm and eat supper, she had heard from Alecia and Mike, they were leaving New Orleans and headed home. Marilyn ate and I showed her my work that I had done on genealogy, and our cousin's work from Texas.

New Years Eve

Today is New Years Eve 2008, we have no plans, we don't go to parties we will just watch the new year come in. Our granddaughters have plans, one is visiting a friend, and the other is deer hunting with her aunt. Christmas day , we had Christmas dinner at our house. My husbands sister and a friend of hers and our came. We had a nice meal, Roy had purchased a ham, and all the fixings all I had to do is warm it. That was nice not to have to cook. I cooked some candy the night before, and fixed Mary, Jo and Marilyn a box of it. Marilyn, Fauna, and myself went to the show after we ate dinner. We saw Marley and Me, a movie about a dog and his family, it was a real sad movie, the dog died, wasn't expecting that. Everybody cried.
